i was walking around the institute. i was early that wednesday. so i was looking for the library.
was up and down, and everywhere around, i still can't locate where the library was . so, then i saw this gallery. a gallery that existed to display all the plaques and awards the institute ever gotten.
thank god i saw two makcik cleaners in there. at last, some human being. frankly, the institute was pretty deserted that morning. this is indeed the two people that i could ask for some directions.
seeing them being malays/indonesians, i decided to polish my mothertongue in hoping that well, we are indeed serumpun hence i better be upholding this regional malay language.
'akak, tumpang tanya. kat sini perpustakaan kat mana?' i posed the question to the first kakak cleaner, near the door, cleaning up some glass screens.
'perpustakaan ya? jap ya. akak!! (calling to the other makcik cleaner). Di mana ya perpustakaannya di sini?'
'lor, perpustakaan itu kan lai-bri. lai-bri itu kan perpustakaan. ada di sana laaa (with her fingers showing opposite directions)'
'owh, lai-bri ya? owh lai-bri di sana aja. adik turun lift ni, lalu ke kiri, lantas sebelum ke bangunan blakang, ada lai-bri nya'. kakak cleaner no.1 was telling me the exact directions after realizing what the hell perpustakaan is.
and i was like, wth?! konon nak uphold bahasa serumpun la ape lah, sudahnye makcik ni she knows a lai-bri better than a perpustakaan. dang!
perhaps, the institute being the 'Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations' would explain this phenomena. *geleng my head*
